Don’t be surprised if the local yuppies want to get their collective grubby mitts on this railroad, rip it out and turn the right-o-way into a bike trail.
Great news! Hope freight movements might return as well.
What has happened, vis a vis, with the local restaurant that wanted the land for a bigger parking lot? Or did my stories and connections get mixed up?
Boy the prices have increased from when I was there last. I guess for food service in Santa Fe they are in line.
What happen to the former operator?
What’s happening with the X Train Las Vegas to L.A. Thing?
Well, there’s hardly much reason for a bike trail to Lamy, there’s
also not much freight left to haul and those rates will pretty much
kill any normal tourist operation. Next?
Hope things turn out well for the operator. It’s a beautiful trip and the Santa Fe area is well worth a visit. (The SF Southern is also a “must” for any Breaking Bad fans visiting New Mexico!)
With those prices which will not encourage riders, it sounds to me like this might be a tax write-off for someone (casinos?). Even so, it will be nice to have it back in operation.
Too rich for my blood. The Rail Runner to Albuquerque and Belen is a far cheaper way to see imposing countryside. As for that, Amtrak will probably take you to Gallup and beyond from Lamy for less money and a greater New Mexico view. What are these operators smoking? More than a peace pipe I’ll betcha!
