In 1935 Santa Fe were experimenting with EMD Boxcabs called “The Twins” . Does anyone have any color scheme information about these two lost lovelies?

Any Ideas?

As described in Early Diesel Days the famous 1A and 1B Amos and Andy bdouble ended boxcab diesels were painted from top to bottom Saratoga Blue, Pimpernel Scarlet Stripe along the roof line, Super Chief Golden Olive along the sides and front separated by black accent stripes a tiny black pinstripe separating the bottom of the Olive from the bottom most color which was Cobalt Blue. As delivered the scarlet roof stripe was also outlined with black pinstripe.
Hope this helps.
IIRC, Hallmark came out with a brass version of “The Twins”. From what I remember, the color on the models was an olive and cream or yellow with red accents. This would have been the original scheme as the units were later re-built into a couple of pug-nose monstrosities and painted in the Warbonnet scheme.
Apparently, Division Point also did a run of these as I found a listing for them at Perry’s Hobbies http://www.perryshobbies.com/HOTrains.html . They’re listed as DP3004 about 3/4 way down the page. No picture, unfortunately.

Thank you both. This is exactly the information I needed. I am embarking on a scratch-build in N Scale. Still planning and researching.
I agree about the pug nose monsters… I’m sure those designs were the driving factor moving development forward quickly…
Interesting though…
Thanks again
Cheers…
from bob t. hi charlie, interesting project you are thinking of.i have been giving some thought to doing a set in H O but i am still in the dreaming about it stage. you need the book ; “the one spot twins”. get in to the santa fe railway historical & modling society web site and click on company store, then books.it has chapters on development&testing of the engines, there is a dimensional drawing, and on page 2 there is a colourized print of the two units. also, click on railimages.com JOHN TYSON( i hope thats right ) john did a HO cri&p ab-6 from a p2k e-7 .there only 2 picts. of it under construction and i know its diferent looking in most details ,but picture it with a cab on both ends.both the at&sf box cabs and the ab-6 are the same thing,a rectangular box on wheels.i thought if or when i start my own box cab project i would start with a long b unit of some sort ( alco dl-b,emd e-6 or e-7 ect.), remove detail, fill windows, ect. this would be a lot of work, but it would give me a square and strong shell to work off of.i hope this gives gives you some help and inspration to start on your one spot twins. good luck bob tyson. i could use some advice on this project myself. thanks in advance. bob
