Did some or all of these engines have speed recorders on all 8 wheels? Some recently added photos on the “Fallen Flags” web site would suggest so,unless the cables in question were for recording some other bits of telemetry. Thanks.

Dave Husman is correct. GEs from the original U25Bs through the Dash 7 series typically had axle drives for wheel-slip measurement on every axle on the left side. There was often also a speed recorder drive on the right end of one axle on the front truck. This varied, however, on units with non-standard trucks, such as EMD GP ("Blomberg’) trucks.
