Santa Fe's 10 pack fuel foilers

Does anybody know what hapend to Santa Fe’s 10 pack “fuel foiler” articulated TOFC spine cars? Were they reduced from ten to five platforms, sold off, or scrapped? What differences were there between the original “fuel foiler” cars and curent day articulated spine cars?

I dont know what happened but based on the fact that almost all trailers are 53 feet long more than likely they were scarpped. Tehy could only hold a 48 foot trailer with some diffaculty. The 10 pack was way ahead of its time when it came out if Santa fe had seen the future andmade them 53 foot long they would still be around.

I to do not what happen to them but for sure they were way ahead of the curve when it comes to fuel savings. [:o)]

I read some where that 10 was too cumbersome to manouver with and that was why they went down to 5pack. But I think anything less than 48’ is very obsolete now and therefore they probably were scrapped or rebuilt to accomidate 53’ers.

I thought the original SF 10 packs were not meant for interchange service. I thought that someone bought the rights then upgraded them for interchange service and started selling to others like Trailer Train. Some of these were meant for 45 footers originally and they squeezed 48s on. I think some of those were rebuilt to accept 53s but info on TTs web sight is sketchy.
