Big night last night! The western tunnel on my 8x4 Rocky Shores RR was completed last night. My six year old daughter wanted me to name it after her, so it has been dubbed “Sara Tunnel”.
With the installation of the tunnel roof (which also serves as the track bed for the top level track) I was finally able to install my final girder bridge and lay the last of the track. My loop (I call it a folded figure eight?) is finally completed. I tested it with some free rolling rolling stock and operation was smooth. Next step is to drill holes for feeder wire and start soldering them into place.
Thanks for indulging me, but I just wanted to share my excitment. Isn’t it great that a 40 year old man can get so excited over something so insignificant to the rest of the world!
It’s kind of funny how we come up with names for things - I imagine a lot of things on people’s layouts get named for friends and family members, or sometimes for just some kooky reason[:D]
When I was doing basic scenery on my layout, I built a mountain one December while listening to a Gloria Estefan Xmas CD over and over, so it got named Mt. Gloria. Likewise, a hill I constructed Halloween evening (hiding out in the basement from the trick-or-treaters) naturally became known as Halloween Hill.
Just don’t name anything, say like an industry, after a girlfriend that requires it to be identified with signs…because when they become an ex-girlfriend, you’ll have a lot of repainting to do[;)]
Trevor, Wow! So glad you and Sara are doing this together. It’ll stay with you for decades to come, Lord willing. Great to see that even a small layout can bring so much fun to you guys. I’m 57, and our oldest son (4 kids) is a train nut, so I know railroadin’ can be a terrific way to have quality time, for a lifetime.
