No, No, the state is very much supportive of the SNCR efforts, the radical enviromental group ‘Protect the Adirondacks’ and some cyclists sued to stop the old railway from being reopened, and they loss in court.
Its amazing what vision can do with a rail line left for dead. First tourists now freight. Maybe with enough time all abandoned rail lines could redeem themselves. Good job SNCR!
The northern part of this line to Tahawas, the northern part of the Adiriondack Scenic, and the eastern part of the Catskill scenic, have all had proposals to be turned into trails.
Is this the same route that some wanted closed and turned into a rail trail?
It is, along with the Catskill Mountain to the south. This proposal just might be DOA in Albany. Move along, nothing to se here, folks.
I hope Albany(Gov.Coumo) doesn’t block tis deal as he did with fracking in the southern tier.
If that’s the case, Nathan Anderson; Boo- f’ing- Hoo for those granola munchers. I wonder if the local authorities really investigated that case where that geep, which was on loan to the railroad was sabotaged?
I love how the environazis HATE business in New York. These rail trails are a flop, no one uses them, but they insist on building more. Rails and jobs trump granola bars any day.
Tha Adirondaks are a beautiful place for all to enjoy. Reactivating closed rail lines will not diminish the Adirondak beauty but will provide jobs and expand the rail network to forster opportunities for the surrounding communities. There will still be plenty of natural forest and mountains to be enjoyed by all including passengers on the trains as well as hikers, bicyaclists, naturalists and campers. There is plenty of space for everyone to play and work together.

Maybe even business in the winter with skier. Down with tree huggers.
As a railfan who is also an avid cyclist - and who has never in his lift lifted a granola bar to his lips (ugh!) - I’m getting mighty tired of you people who would disparage your fellow rail enthusiasts who appreciate the retired past as well as the present and future.
I urge each and every one of you (you know who you are), before letting the phrases “granola munchers,” “tree huggers,” etc., emanate from your keyboards again, to rent a bicycle and ride one of your local converted rail beds. You will be astonished what a great experience it is to travel where the trains have in years past - astonished at the sensory experience to be gained by seeing these former rail lines up close and personal. Until you can say you’ve done so, can the sarcasm once and for all.
