I once worked for a rail line which used F-units and was told the FRA operating practice inspector stated we were not to use them as a switching platform. He contended riding like the man in the picture was an unsafe act. When switching we had to ride the unit with switcher steps.
Well done for a small upstart passenger service, despite using aging locomotives and passenger cars. When Amtrak retires its Amfleet cars from service, maybe short lines like this, smaller commuter rail operations such as Nashville’s Music City Star, or tourist trains like the former Colorado ski train, could put some of the best of those coaches to use on an interim basis , instead of having Amtrak scrap them.
