Satisfying operation in a small space

I presented the following track plan concept in Optimizing a 4x8 in a 10x11 room. It was designed for narrow gauge operations so the removable track in the lower right corner was a loads-in/loads-out… There have been several queries about the concept for standard gauge. The loads-in/loads-out would be used as a staging track for though trains. Assume the bottom were south and the railroad connected to the B&O and the yard at the right side north connecting to the Pennsy. Car delivery off world would take the cars going south to the transfer track and delivery to the B&O. Their next movement would be again as car deliveries going south after arriving in the north bound yard via the transfer track. from the Pennsy. This system works very well on a small layout. I have used this myself.

The webpage for the trackplan concept is at:

small space? [;)]I wish i had that much room. I am working on a layout in HO in a 2’x4’ area. amazingly enough, it will have continious running even. 12" radius turns. all 0-4-0’s and a possible 0-6-0 if i can extend the draw bar a bit more.[^]

that is a really nice idea though for using a standard 4’x8’ and making it more usable and enjoyable. I only wish i had a spare 10’x11’ room to do it with.
