Save Money!!!! Get 2 Buildings from 1 Kit

Hi Guys,
I’ve posted this tip before on this forum, but decided to post it again for you folks that might have missed it the first time.

In the current Walther’s sales catalogue for July, on page 24, they are offering their “American Hardware Supply” kit for only $27.98 which is quite a bit off of the retail $49.99 price. Better yet, I’ve discoverd that you can easily get two buildings out of this kit. It turns out that the “River City Textiles” background building that Walther’s offers is actually the back 3" section of this “American Hardware” kit, complete with water tower. Therefore, if you build the front 2/3 of the building and just use a sheet of plain styrene for the back wall like I did, you get “American Hardware”, which is still a good size building just over 6" deep and then you also get the “River City Textiles” background building.

Actually, for my layout, I was better off with the “American Hardware” building being only 6" deep, rather than almost 9" deep. It may work for you also.

I hope you understand what I’m suggesting, If not, feel free to email me.

Hi Mondo, I have purchased a couple of the background buildings and found that they also have several parts from the full version of the model, including in some cases full wall sections. I have doubled the size of some of my flats this way.

Excellent tips/advice guys, I’m definately going to look at this on my next round of kit building, thanks.

Have fun & be safe,
Karl.

Hi Karl,
I should have mentioned that you can usually get the Walther’s sale price at your local hobby shop, if they have the kit. Also, the sale price on the “American Hardware Supply” is available beyond July 31st, I think until September 30th.

Hope this helps.

This is a great idea. In the past I have used many of the Walthers kits to make two buildings, the front and one side makes one and the back and the other side make the second. This works well when the buildings will be placed in the background and at an angle to the backdrop - thus a viewer can only see two sides of the building anyways. Helps stretch the hobby dollar!
