Saw John Deere At K-Mart

Had to run through K-Mart and stopped in the toys to see if they had any “Homies”, which are near O Scale and comical.

Came a cross a 5 piece John Deere set of farm equipment by Ertl for $9.95.

Granted it is 1/64, but would not look out of place at the back of a layout.

Can’t beat the price, you can suffer through the smaller size.

What did John Deere look like? He must be really old. ; )

Wal Mart sells either Catapillar or JD 1/50 earth moving equipment. About $10.00 each.

I actually thought he was dead.[xx(][:p][swg]

Size looks perfect to me![:D][:D][swg]

Frank, I run period stuff from the 50s; would you or anyone happen to know when that model was produced?

Also, while I think John Deere, the color and style and stuff is just fabulous, I often wonder why we don’t see Ford tractors and equipment.

I used to visit folks on a farm every summer who had an old 1940s style Ford tractor.

it looked new, and what I have pictured is not representative of what I saw at K Mart - just a pic I grabbed off the ERTL site. There were two vehicles and three additional add-ons for $9.99.

Not a bad deal.

Wife used to work at a K-Mart,was able to get “Road Champs” for
about $ 5.00 a piece.(1/43rd scale).
I Model the 50s ‘thru’ 60s,so have been able to get a few vehicles.

Your John Deere dealer has the 2005 catalog with Ertl tractors and equipment. Lots of 1/64 and now some 1/50 scale. Check it out. Catalog is free.

Ertl makes a lot of cool farm equipment. I’m not sure about these days but they used to make several different brands of tractors, including Farmall, Allis, and Ford.

Dave I think the tractor in the pic is much more recent than 50s, but Ertl and some other manufacturers do make older tractor models. A good place to check is a farm supply store like Quality Farm and Fleet or TSC. I’m sure in the DC area it might be a bit of a drive to your closest farm store though.
