Today, when I was biking, I got board of the neighborhood I was in, so I biked a couple of miles to the Lisle train station. I went their two times today. Saw 6 metra’s and a freight. The freight train didn’t have any H3 engines, it was a BNSF GP20, and UP AC6000. On it were numerous BNSF intermodel cars labled with the H3 scheme.
GRRRRRRRRR! I also have not seen one BNSF unit in the H4 scheme yet, and I live on one of their busiest lines in the country, the triple track raceway into and out of Chicago to Aurora. My luck has to change soon (perhaps coincidental with it raining?)
Early last week I saw a light engine move westbound through Lisle with 4 brand new GE’s in H3 along with 3 older GPs in SF blue that were surprisingly clean. A week or so ago I also spotted a brand new coal train with the new scheme and I’ve also seen it on some new grain cars.
Lisle Depot Days is this weekend if you need an excuse for more Q racetrack watching. The Historical Society opens up the old station, wood caboose, tavern, and blacksmith shop. It’s located just northest of the new city hall. Just south of city hall is ‘the wall’ an interesting spot for cab level viewing onthe racetrack. Just east of there is trackside commuter lot E on the outside of the Lisle curve where you can see from College road to Belmont. Saturday is usually better for train watching, but this past Sunday morning traffic was much heavier than normal. The Book Nook news stand on Main street has Trains, Classic Trains, and gets current special issues. Stay off the ROW and BNSF access roads and the police will generally leave you alone.
