sawtooth roofing material

On a building with a sawtooth roof style, what kind of material is the roofing made out of? Shingles, rolled roofing, metal clad, etc.

Hi Jube, and [#welcome] to the Forum.

The roof could be sheathed in any material suitable for a pitched roof. This could be influenced, of course, by the building’s age, size, and intended use.

I am building an N scale Walther’s Cornerstone Car Shop, and currently the roof is just smooth styrene. As far as era, I am aiming for late 60’s. Of the photo’s I have found on the net, most if not all, are taken from ground level so one doesnt get a good look at the roof.

Depends, here in So Cal, most packing sheds with the popular sawtooth roof used rolled asphalt material, yet there were several sheds of brick construction that utilized corrugated tin stock, often times a mutlitude of materials could be found due to building expansion and/or patch repairs. For some vintage roofing tin, several of the remaining brick structures of the once vast SP Sacramento Shops remain sheathed in corrugated tin applied in the teens or earlier! Durable indeed.

The last saw toothed roofed building I worked under had Aespestos roof sheets and capping. The individual sheets where about 8 foot by 2 1/2 foot wide with 6 4 inch deep corrugations in them. I think they used to called super 6. We had them removed to be replaces with corrugated galvanized sheets.
