Get whatever you want. Some questions to ask yourself are…what Railroad do I like the best…are there any new releases that just came out that I want…etc.
It’s your call.

Whenever the state government makes a little extra in tax revenue, they just go out and spend it for something they think will help them get re-elected. Instead, I wi***hey would put their money into something less glamourous, like infrastructure.
So, buy yourself a few different-colored spools of wire, so when you wire your layout you can color code it, which will make it easier in the long run. Get some terminal strips, too, and a decent wire-stripper if you don’t already have one. Have you got a Xuron rail-snipper? How about a good set of small screwdrivers? Or go to Wal-Mart and buy some acrylic paints and a couple of brushes.
Take out a TD Ameritrade account and buy yourself a share of Burlington Northern Santa Fe stock - BNI is the market abbreviation.
How about one driver wheel on a brass steamer? That’s about what they cost these days …

Enjoy your earnings Kieth… Pick out something you’ve been wanting for awhile and if you have enough, buy it. If not, put the cash away and save for a bigger purchase. Do NOT under ANY circumstances however, pay $80 for a box of Hydrocal [swg].
TRAINS TRAINS TRAINS…Because Ya can’t have too many trains!..whatever You do Spend Wisely
Dude buy some freight cars you need more!!! Then buy grass and trees. Loco man
If you’re still not sure, send it to me and I promise to give you a full account of how I spent it! [:o)]

Boy, who let Ebeneezer Scrooge in here. Here we all are lamenting the fact that Model Railroading is dying, and then Mainestain throws cold water on CSXTRAINS.
Me, I appreciate his CSX’s enthusiasm! That is the future. And so I will advise. With $80.00 I would buy rolling stock. Preferably PRR. [:D][:D][:D]
save it for a DCC system if you dont already have one. Then Mom and Dad will watch in amazement as you make youre trains do some awesome and unexpected stuf.
Say there, csxtrains23;
When I first read your posting here the first thing that went through my mind was, “Don’t buy anything with it; send it to me and let me buy something with it.” Then fiatfan stole my thunder - so I’ll come up with something else.
Buy that girlfriend of yours a little token of appreciation - girls like that and it’ll make her want to stay your girlfriend - and I’m sure you’ll like that!
There is an institution in your town called a BANK. Put it in there. Probably it’s not going to earn a heckuva lot of interest there but, keep in mind that the half-life of $80.00 is $3.18 and I will gay-rown-tea you that if you carry it around in your wallet for three weeks that’s what it’s going to decay to. And the next time you get $80.00 from your ole dad for another sealcoating job put it in the bank (after, of course that little token gift for that sweet honey that hangs around on your arm between classes) and watch it grow. And one of these days you’ll see that special something in the hobbyshop and you’ll have the money for it.
If you are dead set on buying something right now then Mister Beasley gave you some darned good advice. If you don’t already own one - and if your parents have no objections to your owning one - I’d suggest a Dremel mototool. Look around for a bargain; for about eighty iron men you can get a good Dremel - AND DON’T FORGET THE EYE-PROTECTION!!
I was 12 years old once (of course, my grandkids don’t believe that - they keep asking me how long it took my wagon train to get to Oregon and did I shoot any Indians along the way - but it is a fact of life - I was twelve years old at one time); if I remember right I was twelve between the ages of 11 and 13; has anyone else out there shared this experience???
help pay the electric bill
yay dad
buy an HO bank…hide your money there…
:rimshot:
I think to get the most bang out of your buck, go buy a bunch of kits for rolling stock. Athearn BB, Round House, Accurail, Bowser, etc. One, you can get quite a few, at least 7-10 depending on prices and such so that will look good haveing abunch of new cars. Plus, that will keep you busy for a long time working on all of them.
I have done that plenty of times. Have fun.
R. T. POTEET, what is a dremel mototool? what would i use it for? and also i was thinking spending half on scenery and half on frieght cars. but yeah let me know on the dremel! thanx so much!
Keith
Keith, I read about your “summer project.” If you plan on carrying that out, I’d suggest spending some of the money on supplies for that, if you’re going to carry it out.
Otherwise, I suggest saving it. Put it in the bank. Earn some interest.
Matt
Hey, a Dremel…I could use one of those. But I think I’ll get myself some more hand tools before I step up to using the big guns for my small projects.
Keith:
Here is a common example of a typical Dremel tool.
http://www.tylertool.com/drem395varsp.html
They are great tools, and have a variety of uses; saw, sander, polisher, wirebrush, drill…Et cetera. If you plan on scratchbuilding, a Dremel would probably come in handy. If not, you could use it to clean track and other various odd jobs. In fact, I found that it came in handy with my first kitbashing. It’s rather hard to cut metal axles…But not with a Dremel.[8D]
[#ditto]I would get a “Scott Trade” account and buy two shares of CSX., which is also the stock symbol. I made a killing buying Canadian National (CN) at $20 a share a few years ago…
