[:D]Hi guys,
How is everybody doin’ with there layouts, we are in the middle of the freezing rain strom, so the only thing that I have been doing is working on the layout (on darn) and my wife has been working with our senery, so far we haven’t lost our electricity yet. Tell me what’s going on with everybody else tonight[8D]
Weather’s been unusually warm here in Florida for the past 2 weeks. It’s just now cooling off. I’m working back and forth between models. I’m still “hopping up” a set of HO Bachmann Metroliners. I’ll be replacing the cheesy truck motor in the lead car with a Walther’s PDT truck motor.
I’ve painted two in the Alclad Metalizer. Wow! If you want a passenger car to look like it’s made out of “Real” stainless steel, Alclad Chrome is the stuff to use! No Buffing needed either! The catch is that instead of using a Gloss Black foundation coat, use a glossy gray like Delaware & Hudson Gray. This will better match the Walther’s passenger car color, only it will look better! One should practice on scrap styrene first as Alclad is expensive.
I’m also working on two Athearn SCL U33Bs. These two are THE LOUDEST GROWLERS I’ve ever heard! I’m going to give it the old “Peal Drops” style treatment in the trucks. Since I can no longer find the tooth polish in the stores, I’m going to try a “baking soda” paste which is also quite abrasive. Hopefully the polishing effect will result in quieter trucks!
My layout will be going up soon when I finish buying most of my track.
Hello ,you are no dought a lucky man having your wife helping you.I just started on my new layout got the first two benches up stryofoam board set and leveled.I am going to build a module type this time where sections can be removed and used with the local clubs modules.Winter has finally come to the hills of West Virginia{about time} and I am looking forward to looking out the window and watching it snow and snow and snow.I just got started super detailing a pair of bowers N5c cabooses to go with my Pennsy Mountains.Just finished building a cambells wood coaling tower what a bear to build, but well worth the effort.Have been giving serious thought to building either BTS Mc Cabe lumber or AMB Dabler Mill both kits look like they would be very impressive when done. I wish you all the best on your layout I know you guys in the nortwest can get some pretty ruff winter weather I spent a winter in Troutdale OR. along time ago and it was a chilling experience comming from the mild weather in S.Nevada Good luck Terry.
It’s 0615 and I’m just walking in the door from work. I spent the night standing a security watch topside (I’m stationed on a submarine). Spending time up here in the Seattle area, makes me long for those warmer Texas winters. I’m about to head into “The Train Room” to work on a kitbash. Basically I’m taking a Roundhouse 4-4-0, and turning it into a 2-4-2 cabforward. I’m pretty sure there’s no real prototype for it. But I figure I’ve got nothing else better to do, and my wife won’t let me spend anymore money on trains until I sell my motorcycle.
MY Prayers and best wishes to you and to all who serve. The 2-4-2 cab forward sounds really interesting hope you post a pic or two when you get it done. Terry.
