I had originally purchased the Lionel Culvert Loader - Non command control. I was wondering if it can be connected to the new sc2 for command operation? It specifically states that it can not be connected to the SC1 or damage will occur. I bought the non-command version because funds were not there for the command version. I have not bought the Sc2 yet but do not what to ruin anything when I do get one. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

This is probably a good question to e-mail to the techs at Lionel. I am not sure why the SC-1 could not be used. But the “improved” SC-2 switch and accessory controller should be designed to be capable of turning any Lionel accessory on and off. But again, I have not seen an SC-2.
An IC Controls ASC3000 accessory controller could be an option also.

Hi Joe,
Based on what I have been reading it appears that the SC1 was not designed to handle the amperage loads possible from operation of a lot of Lionel accessories. The new reactor cannot be operated with the SC1 either.
Based on the following writeup from the Lionel website, on the SC2, it looks as though the SC2 has been designed to handle a lot of power (15 amps at 18-20 volts is a lot for a train layout). This should now be sufficient to handle the power draw from multiple accessories.
SC2 writeup from Lionel website:
Allows remote radio control of AC loads up to 15 amps! Powered either by the track or a wall pack, the SC-2 is input fused for maximum durability. It has program storage for control of the six programmable outputs capable of managing a combination of switches and accessories (up to six switches or up to twelve accessories). You can even turn power loops and sidings on and off remotely!

Thanks for the info. It sounds like Lionel should have done that in the first place instead of releasing the SC1. I did get an email back from Lionel about the Culvter Loader. “NO” was the response. I don’t know how the new loader is wired but it is not meant for command control.

Hi Joe,
Did Lionel say “NO” to being able to operate the culvert loader with the SC1, SC2 or both? The impression I got was that the SC2 could be used to control the new culvert loader but not the SC1.
