Does anyone here know or have heard of Lionel making another run of the scale size Hudson? After all it was their flagship engine and they do continue to produce their Santa Fe F units because of their popularity.

Lionel just released a scale Hudson set last year. It was gorgeous too. I know they can still be had.
Williams makes an incredible reproduction of the scale hudson as well. Too bad both Lionel’s and William’s are too big for my layout. I’d be all over it!

Does Lionel still make Santa Fe F-Units? No Lionel catalog is truely a lionel catalog without them.
Traditional sized FT El Capitan set and a Scale F7 ABA set are in the current catalog.
We own the Santa Fe FT set with Trainsounds. I ran it last night (after the kids went to bed). Great horn!

Just a word or two about the Williams locomotive; do not expect to get TMCC installed at that price, also Williams loco may have just the basic whistle in the tender, if it is like the S-2 turbine that Williams sells the whistle sound is very good for the price. The Williams S-2 steam locomotive that I have is a very strong locomotive for the size, can pull more than 20 frieght cars to include post-war quad hoppers, also Williams uses metal gears instead of plastic for longer life.

My local shop has a boxed 773 set that I’ve often admired, but is way out of my price range at $1850. I’ve often tried to get him to sell it for the $79.95 price that Lionel printed on the end of the box all those many years ago, but to no avail :). He also has a 773 by itself, but I don’t know the price(if you have to ask…).
I might have to look into getting a Williams 773. I also really liked the K-line scale Hudson when it came out, although I couldn’t afford it at the time. I still wouldn’t mind to get one, though, as it is a really nice looking model and probably the least expensive scale sized, well detailed Hudson that can be had.
Not to change the subject, but how’s that 2055 project locomotive coming along, Ben?

Sorry for the lack of updates, but I haven’t had much of a chance to do work lately.
Last weekend, I bought paint and dry transfers to repaint the shell. I’ll probably try and strip it this weekend, and maybe get the first coat of paint on it. The parts that I have stripped are in really nice shape under the not-so-nice paint, so I’m optimistic about how it will turn out.
I took apart the E-unit and cleaned it, and will put it back together one of these days.
I’ve been putting off ordering parts, and will probably do so in the next few weeks. Besides trucks, I now also need a smoke unit piston(long story), front truck screw, and maybe new E-unit fingers.
The side rods have been polished, and look really nice. I had though I might replace them, but see little need to now.
The motor runs really, really well, and I’m sure that this will make a nice engine once I get everything back together. I’m always glad to save an engine that otherwise would have been parted out or ended up in a landfill.
It’s sounds like you are well on your way, Ben. I’ve been intrigued with this project from the start. I share your sentiment regarding these engines that have seen better days. Restore them instead of parting or tossing them.
Laquer thinner will remove that paint from the die cast shell in minutes.
