The August 2005 edition of Model Railroader featured and article about the 4x13 HO sectional layout, the Roscoe, Snyder & Pacific. I would like build my own layout based upon this design.
Does anyone have a scale plan of this layout or know where I can find a scale plan?
Is there software I can use that would help me design this layout?
I used RTS, available free online from http://atlasrr.com to design my layout. If you have any curves greater than 24" radius, you will have to fudge a little and use a section of flex track, but it’s very simple to use.
the RS&P is an interesting looking layout . i wonder why they didn’t use any photos in the article .
a couple of things to note … you’ll be running very short trains , i think the sidings and passing tracks can only take about 3 or 4 cars plus loco . and the only access to the staging yard is at the back of the layout , meaning you can’t put it up against a wall unless you put wheels on the legs and roll it out if anything derails in the staging area . it’s also a pretty long reach to either of the back corners .
otherwise i think it’s very good use of 4’ x 13’ and i can imagine it would be a lot of fun to run trains on [:)]
There is a thread in the general discussion form talking about this. The layout isn’t really 4x13. It is closer to 6x13. I think we finally calculated between 54 and 58" wide. 4 feet is the folded up for transport width.
