I am doing a survey on what scale people model most often.
Why?
If you get a representative sampling, your results will be:
HO the most
N next to the most
O after that
everything else behind these three
There. Now we don’t need the poll!

I’m an HO 'R I have thought of dabbling with ON30 but have decided for preasant that HO is my scale. Mind you I do full size modelling when i’m at the museum so maybe you should have included 12"to the foot as well. TB
My scale is O-NO
I basically model in HO, but I am fascinated with ‘large scale’. I picked up some ‘G’ items through the years and keep thinking about doing something in the back yard one of these summers.
Jim Bernier
i mostly model in HO but i also do alittle G, O, and N on the side
It seems like we get this poll every couple months. I still do 3 rail O exclusively.
I model HO, or as some call it Horrible Oversized.[:D]
Robert
I model in HO but I’m thinking about N because I don’t have a lot of room.
HO, can’t see the little stuff or I would be in N.
I always thought it was How Ordinary[:D][:D]
jrheavner - if you’re going to do survey of scales you can’t leave out S.[V][V]
S by the way stands for the Supurb scale.[:D][:D]
Enjoy

I model N scale because I live in a small home and only have a spare bedroom for my trains. My layout I am working on is a 7’ x 8’ twice around. It has a coal mine, refinery, passenger station and a small steam/deisel servicing area. That gives some opperating interest. In HO I couldn’t put much in that space. If I had the room, I would model in HO scale. I look at the HO scale locomotives and really envy you HO guys. N has come a long way since I first started back in the hobby about 1989. Still, I would prefer to model in HO if I had more space. HO and N seem to be the most affordable and practical scales to model.
S, O, and G offer relatively better opportunities for scratch building. If you have checked out “off-the-shelf” prices on the larger gauges lately, you know there is a fortune to be saved through “do it yourself.” Car and loco plans are available in many publications. Now, in my case, I refer ro rolling stock (freight/passenger), deisel locos, interurban, and street cars. I don’t have a machine shop at my disposal for the intricate detail with steam locos. As a senior, HO scratch building days for me are pretty much over. Besides, castings are so expensive anymore that it runs the cost of steam locos, etc. nearly as high as a good kit. With O and G gauges, there are many creative and imaginative options for emulating detail without buying expensive castings (wood carving, if nothing else). G gauge needn’t be that expensive when you do your own work! Not enough room for a good HO layout inside? Go outside with large gauge; do your own scratch building and enjoy the satisfaction that goes with “a job well done.”
G as in Gee thats HUGE!
1/20.3 large scale to be specific
Quit honestly I just dont get all this N/HO rivalry, the both look tiny to me![:D]
HO…period.
JR you also put the poll on the scale forum, I bet it would be different if you put it in the garden forum, or the toy trains forum. Each forum will have its own bias.
Good luck
Tim
My scale is “N” scale
I like “N” because of the size and you can make a large layout in a small space,
I still model in N. Haven’t change since the last poll and probably won’t change before next month’s.
Also, I still don’t vote in polls. Don’t want to encourage them.

HO all the way!
My grandfather modeled HO back in the 50’s, my dad modeled HO in the 70’s, and I’ve been modeling HO for 20 years now. It is a family tradition that I cannot escape, it is in my blood!
