Scale question on Case 340 Articulated Truck v. Cat 315C Excavator

Is it me or is the scale on the 340 not 1:87 as stated on various websites and in print on the package it comes in?

Reason I ask is that I have both and when compared to the 315C and the rest of my 1:87 equipment, the 340 seems to be out of scale (larger - closer to 1:64 possibly).

Thanks!

John

Hello John,

Being a heavy equipment operator by trade, perhaps I can help. The cat 315C is a fairly small track-hoe.The case 340 might be HO. Is it a Norscot case 340 ?

The norscot cat family of haul trucks are pretty dead center for HO. I to have a rather large collection of cat equipment for my rialroad.

I see that you live in central NY,what part do you live in ? I’m from Oswego,NY.

Yes, both models are made by Norscot, although the Case models are not listed on their website for some reason.

I’m orginally from the south University area of Syracuse and now reside in Fayetteville.

JP, I asked one of our local MRR club members who is into the Caterpillar and Case equipment (in HO), and he said the 340 is a large unit, and that it’s likely true to scale (especially since it’s a Norscot). The 340 (per his report) is just a huge vehicle compared to the Case 315C. That’s what he told me.

Hope that helps you,
