As I begin my new layout, I’ve had some ideas. And one of them actually appeared on the cover of the March MR.

While I do trackwork, I can dispatch a MOW train (like a ballast train, for example).

I also plan on having a shop area. Some guys working on locos would also be neat.

thanks for the photos, guys. one feature i noticed in a lot of them did my heart good. it validates my laying track directly on the plywood almost everywhere except on the remote main lines. the pictures clearly show track at the same level as the surrounding pavement and overall terrain in general.

That’s the old Monon depot in Orleans, Indiana (my parents’ hometown).

There’s a pretty decent photo record of the structure online, so it should be possible to scratchbuild a passable representation. I’d like to have it on the layout as a tribute to my folks, who are also gone.
