Scenes from the Kootenay Valley Railway, Part 3

Not much to say about this shot except that it’s taken from a bank on the Columbia River during its long loopy course in Canada. At this point, the train is off of the old Kettle Valley Railway (CP’s southern mainline) and is on the branch to the big income maker for this area, the smelter and other operations at Trail and Rossland.

Rrally amazing country! Such scenery deserves good photos. Thanks for sharing.

( Interestingly, the CWR that is laid to the inside of the track. Seems like they would lay it on either side for either easier pu or to put in place. Both rails on one side looks like double work at some point??)

It looks to me like the old rail that was replaced. I can spot at least one joint bar on the strings in the ditch. The vibrant colour of the rust on the railhead also suggests it used to be shiny not that long ago. If it is the old rail, it makes a lot more sense to put both strings on the uphill side until it can be picked up. On the river side, it becomes a lot harder to retrieve should it slip down a steep slope.
