SCHNABEL CAR

Say what?

???

Westinghouse and Pennsy RR in the latest MTH catalog.

MY POST WAS WHO MADE THE EARLIER VERSION? AND NUMBER!!

GEORGE E.

George, the first MTH Schnabel flatcar was the Westinghouse in 2000, since then 13 others have been released and in the latest MTH catalog is the 2 latest entries. I don’t know of any other manufacture that has released the Schnabel flat car, certainly none of the major O Gauge players.

We see these “Blank” posts a bit more often these days and most are tied back to members using IE9; my suggestion if you are having this same issue please try another browser such as Firefox.

Yep, I had nothing but problems with IE9, switched to Firefox, much faster.

SLAG1,

Here’s some info. of the Schnabel Flat Car, after the window opens, scroll down to CEBX 800, in ‘References’, and click on it:

Here’s M.T.H. Models, in their 2012, Volume 1 catalog, just scroll down to see all of the models:

Has anybody ever seen one of these cars in real life? Where? I never have.

balidas,

I have not seen one in real life, but from the photos. in the top link, which I post, it shows the length and you can imagine its size in real life.

The real one has a total of 18 trucks, as compared to M.T.H’s. model which has only 6 trucks.
I know, lack of room in most houses, but to have a 1:48 scale model with 18 trucks affixed, as an operable display piece!

Ralph

I know, that thing would be massive! 36 axles! I’ve never seen one down here. What the heck kind of a load could they be carrying?

balidas,

For one, large electrical transformers and I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re hauling atomic reactors, as well!!!

Hi Everyone,

I prefer Google Chrome for my browser. It is faster than Firefox and fastest on my dial-up.

Here Is a link to 100 pictures of Schnabel cars on Railroad Picture Archives: (I hope)

Byron,

Thank you, your pictures are helpful in understanding how big this Schnabel flat car is.

If can be, what has to be done to have this BEHEMOTH enter into, or near, the New York City area?

Ralph

Got the joy of chasing this one for nearly a day at about 10 mph

Schnabel CEBX #800

Darren,

Beautiful!

It must be something to behold.

Ralph

Wow! That’s like a whole consist in itself!

I did see an Empty Schnable Car with a Caboose on a CN train headed East towards Battle Creek, Michigan. I only saw it in the distance as it rounded Indian Lake. It was just like the MTH Model. It was painted blue. There was a green, offset-cupola caboose. It would have been great if I had been closer to see the reporting marks.

The Schnabel flat car is probably one of the most unique RR cars traveling the rails. Certainly an eye catcher on a layout. Have to get one but the prices on E-Bay are out of sight. There is a good looking NASA version for $499, no thank you. I placed a preorder yesterday for the Westinghouse version.

being Blue it might have been CCRX 40010 (formerly GEX 40010)
