During the summer I picked up a couple of used Scientific G scale battery operated RC trains off Craigslist to give to some grandkids in the family at our holiday party this year. I got G scale so they could run them on my layout before taking them home.
One headlight was out, so I managed to get to it, found it was an incandescent bulb, but didn’t know the rating so wasn’t sure what to replace it with. I put an LED in but meanwhile contacted someone in the U.S who distributes them to see if I could get a replacement bulb. I was told to send an Emal to China. Given these trains only sell for $39 new I didn’t hold out much hope.
Amazingly, I got a reply asking for my mailing address, and a few days later 3 new bulbs arrived by priority mail, at no charge.
I would think that Scientic is a more mass marketed brand than usa, aristo, and lgb, I mean whens the last time you went to a food supermarket and bought a lgb set for $40 ?? Nice to know that they did that, bought an ertl set (made by Scientific) for my 7 year old to run outside this winter. Wonder if I can get them to send me a volume control for that loco, man it’s loud
You’re sure right about the loudness. I couldn’t wait for the grandkids to take them home. I suspect a volume control wouldn’t be hard to add but the odds are the kid’s parents will tire soon at the cost of keeping them in batteries.
BTW, if you’re serious about reducing the sound, it might be just as easy to muffle the speaker. Incidentally, you may have figured this out, but the trick to getting them apart is a screw on the front of the boiler that is hidden by the sticker with the loco number.
It’s good to know that Scientific Toys helped you out with your problem. It makes me feel good because I have two Scientific engines in my roster and one of them is kitbashed. So if I might have a problem I could contact them.
