Score and have Marklin question

Hi everyone,

I was given alot of Marklin track, 9 cars and an engine, bunch of buildings (some need fixing, kinda will be kitbashing i think its called to get them to a decent stage), scenery material, etc. There was also 2 power packs.

On the tracks, few of them are on the rust have bits of rust here and there. Would it be worth saving them aka cleaning them up or would you go regular ho track? To run the train could you ise regular track or would you use the Markin track itself?

Would you use the power packs or switch or switch over to a regular dc power supply?

The Cars (9 of them) all look to be in great shape. The all have metal wheels. Not sure the coupling system, so I guess its what marklin uses from the factory

The engine is untested, but should run. I am going to test when i get a change. I am not sure if it would run on regular ho track.

Any help and or feedback would be appreciated greatly.

Although the scale and track gauge is the same, Marklin locomotives and cars are not compatible with standard HO without modification.

"The Märklin System

Märklin system with contact studs located in the middle of the tracks

The Märklin system is the technique of using a third rail concealed in the roadbed with only small studs protruding through the ties of the track. The two outer rails are connected electrically. This provides the simplified wiring enjoyed by larger gauges—such as for reverse loops—without seriously detracting from the realism of the track because only two of the rails are visible. Because the two outer rails are not electrically isolated from each other, however, some do not consider Märklin’s system to be a true three-rail system. However, older sections of ‘M-Track’ do have an actual conductor rail rather than studs. This older system is compatible with newer trains, although the reduc
