Scott City, MO

How is the train action in Scott City, MO? I used to go train watching there with my grandpa and uncle in the late 80s through the mid 90s. We use to see a good number of trains. Any information would be helpful.

Thanks

Joe

I’m a aircraft mechanic at the airport just north and west of Scott City. As far as how much action there is, it comes and goes, with no pattern that I can tell (I’m just an casual railfan). But, usually its fairly busy. There is a lot of variety, with UP (of course), CN, NS, CSX and every once in a while BNSF. I’e seen heritage Mopac and Katy engines four or five times in the last year or so. A few miles west of town, there is another small town called Chaffee, where the BNSF river sub and UP Chester Sub intersect. Chaffee is a crew change point for BNSF. Since your in the area, there are some really scenic shots on the River sub, it runs right by the Mississippi River. This line is not very busy compared to UP’s. If you have any other questions just let me know and I’ll answer them to the best of my knowledge.
