This is my first posting on this forum. I seek in linking up with other large scale model railroad builders to exchange ideas, plans and a few building techniques.
A brief bio…I’m a retired senior citizen with an eclectic career that included being a jigs and fixtures engineer with Fruit growers Express in Alexandria, VA at the time they were bought out by Norfolk & Western and shut down. I worked in the publications department at Vertol Helicopters when our department was located in the old Baldwin Locomotive offices in Eddystone just after they shut down. General Steel castings were located just across the highway. I literally grew up with rail roading living adjacent to the B&O tracks in Darby, PA, with the Royal Blue passing by twice a day.
My forte is building large scale, 3/8"=1’ scale…roughly. The layout is strickly “FF”, Freelance Fun. One of my favorite models is that of a “Toonerville Trolley”, based on Fontaine Foxe’s comic strip. I’m not a rivet counter but do try and build my equipment in a prototype format. For me it’s a fun challenge in building this stuff to run on tight radiuses and limited space. I construct my models out of Illustration board, Strathmore Bristol paper, wood strips cut in my shop and any other bits and pieces I find lying about. I normally use Bachman wheels hung in my shop made trucks.
My basement shop/layout is equiped with a table top bandsaw, bench sanders, drill press and a HAWK 220 scrollsaw. I have a miniature lathe that’s used from time to time in making parts.
I look forward to hearing from other folks who have the same interests.
