Where can I find plans or line drawings to scratch build structures?

Check the magazine index on this Trains.com website. You can search by structures and hopefully find something that has been published that you are interested in. Then order a copy of the magazine. Most mags have had plans for many years.

I like to create my own buildings by “kitbashing” them…I scratchbuilt two buildings for my layouts over the years using styrene plastic and extruded plastic building parts and it was a slow, time consuming process…it’s a lot easier to kitba***hem and the quality of the buildings are superior compared to scratch built ones…
here’s two good books …chuck
Just a hint, as above, get a couple of good books to get you rolling, one hint that has saved me countless hours of frustration was I went to a hobby store and bought ($5.00) an opened pack of windows, these have saved hours of trying to make believable windows, then you can spend more time on actual building construction. The package contained a lot of sizes and shapes. I have since purchased 2 more packs.
Thanks to you all for the info. I spent years scratch building model sailing ships, which included cutting down cherry trees, milling the wood to the size needed, making my own brass fittings, and cannons. I got tired of trying to find a place to set them so I went to HO guage model reailroads. this info will help.
