Scratch built Caterpillar sideboom tractor & MOW flatcar

Hello all,

I would have liked to build a cat sideboom with a {first gear HO scale international bulldozer}. Not having one, I instead used a toy bulldozer I bought from wal-mart. Most of the parts as you can , tell are just scrap parts laying around from past projects.

The boom and counter weight are scratch built using a boley shovel arm…and the weight was AHM coupler pockets. Then the detail parts ECT.

Like I said, I would have loved to have used a first gear dozer , but the funds for one just aren’t in the budget this week. Doesn’t look to bad from about three feet away and its not like I’m gonna play with it in the dirt.

Below are four photos of the new sideboom cat…

Hi There;

No need to apoligise for that model. Excellent job!! I use the 3ft.rule all the time.

Excellent job, Patrick!

The cabling looks especially nice. I’ve had good luck with medical suture material, (3-0 Silk).

Mick

Really nice! That looks comparable to the $75+ Overland versions (my father owns two of them).

Nice job ! You ought to send those pic’s in to the 1 /87 vehicle club site. They would love that.

Thank you all for the kind words.

A very, very nice model you’ve got there. It really does look like a good quality model from your photos, even if you didn’t use a top of the line model for the base. One doesn’t always have to to make things look good. Nice job.

Noah,

Thanks for the comment. I’m glad you like it,but the next one…hopefully will be a first gear base model. Custom finnishes boom gear and counter weight added to the next one.
