A little advice, please. I would like to scratchbuild the bridge in the photo below in HO scale. It will have to carry a double-track main. I have never worked with brass, but I’m concerned that styrene wouldn’t be strong enough. How would you suggest I build it?
You can build it either out of components from Micro Engineering, Central Valley or Plastruct all styrene which will be more then strong enough if you build it properly. If you have the ability building that out of brass ain’t gonna be cheap. I would suggest doing a search on the Walthers website to see if a bridge like that or one similar already exists. May save you a lot o headaches if not at least give you a good place to start your scratch building project.
I agree. The styrene will probably be stronger than the brass. Micro Engineering, Central Valley have the parts, Drawing the plans will be the key. It will be a nice looking bridge, but it will also be a real projects. Good luck.
Here’s a somewhat similar single track version. If you feel ambitious and skillful enough to scratch one out of brass you should be able to widen this one.
