Screws For Attaching Gargrave Track

Ok I know this question has been asked a million times. For the life of me I cannot find it archived anywhere. What kind of screws to you use to attach Gargrave track to a trestle? Thanks In Advance

What kind of trestle? What is the track being attached to?

Its a trestle that was made from scratch. Its made from 3/8" pine stock and the wood ties pass right over the top slats of the bents.

Try using a number 4 screw three quarters of an inch long with philips head. GarGraves says to use a one/eights inch drill bit but I find that sevin/sixty fourths of an inch works better, just a hair undersize but won’t split wood ties. Try one/sixteenth of an inch for pilot holes, if that don’t work go up by a sixtyfourth of an inch.

I think the screws that Atlas sells for their track would work real good for this application. They are a little smaller than a #4 look to be #2 or #3, they are also 3/4" long. The big plus is that they are black. I use a #0 philips bit to drive them in a power screw driver. Works great. You would still need pilot holes to avoid spliting the ties and bents.

Thanks for the info Phillyreading and Jefelectric It has been very useful. I will let you know how it works out.
