I just made my first home made plaster portal useing tin foil for a mold. It turned out pretty good.I now what to scribe some joints in it to make it look like poured concrete.Any help on how big to make the sections or maybe a pic that I can look at? (It’s HO)
If I’m not totally wrong they make concrete portals with the help of lumber. So the question really is, what is the size of the lumber. If you know that, it’s easy. Maybe this picture can be of some help.
No, I’ve seen portals that looked like concrete cast in place in block like segments. I looked at the WS ones and I think I’ll just pattern mine after one of those. This one is just for practise.
Is a cinder block about the size block you are looking for?
Cheese3- No, I think I got it. I looked at the WS ones and am useing them for a base. I’m talking about concrete poured in sections(like a dam is poured in sections and you can see the joints in between the sections) I just thought some body might have pics handy to judge scale from, but I think I got it.
Thanx
hello mr loathar…if you want to simulate cast concrete walls it is very easy to make a simple mold that can be used many times. .then work out what size of casting you want … most concrete is formed in 8’ x 4’ panels… this is the usual size for 3/4 inch water proof plywood… so what i recomend is to cut 8 x 4 (scale ) pieces of thin styrene… glue the thin styrene to a sheet of thicker styrene… dont make the glueing too neet glue the thin styrene so that it is not perfectly flat with the thick styrene and make the joints a litle varied in thickness… by making this mold it is possible to make tunnel portals , tunnel abutments and retaining walls… build a dam edgeing around the mould… spray the mold with a very light coating of spray baking oil to make it release easily …for a litle variation crack the plaster a little and when you give it a dirty wash it will stand out especially if you glue a little weed on the crack… dont forget to include a scratch and scrape or two to simulate a hit by a passing car or load… hope this is what you want …peter
Thanks Pete-THAT’S the answere I was looking for![tup]
