SD&AE Blog is now ready

(Fresno, CA) December 1, 2010

Managing Editor Chuck Geiger of Full Throttle Country
introduces their newest on-line/interactive web site.

http://sandiegoandarizonaeastern.blogspot.com/

A site dedicated to THE IMPOSSIBLE RAILROAD. Built by
sugar magnate J.D. Spreckles in 1907 and spanning 148
miles from San Diego, CA to El Centro, CA where it
interchanged with the Southern Pacific.

Please check out the new site and be sure to tell a friend
if they are fans of shortline railroads in The West. Thank you
very much.

Chuck,

I drove I-8 recently, and saw some of the line, which appeared out of service, or abandoned.

What exactly is the status of the El Centro to San Diego old SD&AE?

K.P.

Hey KP - It appears from San Diego to Mexico, it is run by Rail America, San Diego and Imperial Valley. Nothing from Mexico to Plaster City. Carizzo Gorge Railway gave up on it recently. UP has service from Plaster City to El Centro. Even though it looks out of service, they have still run trains.

Chuck,

An aerial of Plaster City seems to show a permanent “shoefly” around a business right on the old right-of-way …

What and where exactly is Carrizo Gorge?

From aerials, it doesn’t appear that what seems to be the Carrizo area is very accessible by common vehicles.

Is this, Chuck, the famed trestle?

Thanks,

K.P.

KP - that is the Goat Canyon trestle. And the mainline runs around US Gypsum at Plaster City.
