SD38-2 Radiator Grills

I am kitbashing an Athearn SD40-2 into a SD38-2. So I ordered Cannon Company’s 1405. However when I received it, I noticed that the grill was too long. It is almost long enough to come out to below the center of the third raditor fan on the SD40-2. It is longer than the grills on my GP38-2s and appears to be longer than the grill on this SD38-2. Did they put the wrong grills in the package or is there something I am missing?

Sounds like the grill could be for SD50 or 60. I don’t think cutting would be an option, I would contact Cannon.

It is a “chicken wire” grill. The height is correct, it is the length that appears to be too long.

I believe that you should be using Cannon #1401 for the SD38-2. That least thats the one I used on my GATX SD38-2.

Thanks, however I am modeling a Southern Pacific SD38-2 which calls for “chicken wire” grills.
