Is it just me, or does it seem like no one is making an sd40-2 with the cab headlight , and not the light on the nose? I’ve been checking, but everyone I’ve been able to find are the BNSF version. Much like the 1:1, it seems like everyone is buying them up.
Not sure of what scale you’re looking for, but I picked up a HO Athearn RTR with a cab headlight on Ebay. (It was recent run)
Broadway Limited is also offering an SD40-2
When I had SD40-2’s in N, they had cab headlights. I thought BNSF units also had cab headlights? well the former BN ones that is, don’t know about ATSF.
There’s quite a few of them on ebay right now, unless you’re looking for something more specific than just high versus low headlights.
I think he’s talking about Kato ones. In that instance, I think he wants a BN/CP version instead of the SF/BNSF one
I second the notion of the Athearn RTR one. BLI and Intermountain also make them.
exactly. I was looking for one I could strip the paint off, and do it as another wheeling & lake Erie unit.
I’d imagine part of the problem with finding the BN ones, is the real BN had a ton of them (843). So us BN guys usually have a ton of them.
Another part is kato usually doesn’t do HO scale, much less american stuff in general.
And a third thing, Kato seems to have done a lot of snoot noses.
I checked "that famous auction site Wierd Al sang about. Bunch of Snoots, but very few mids with bids that aren’t snoots or ex-SF. There are a bunch of CN/IC/BN Mids, but they are almost all “buy it now”
If you’re wanting to do some detailing, you could add the anti-climber and ditch lights. I have a set of ditch lights I’m never gonna use, and I think I have some DW anticlimbers I don’t see using.
FWIW, if you want to go the athearn route, lots of the newer RTR versions come with anti-climbers. IDK about ditch lights. I think some of the intermountains also have ditch lights.
I don’t care about the road it comes in- I’m stripping it down to the plastic. I just need to find some that have the cab headlight.
