SD45-2 repainted into new BNSF paint!

Well, I’d thought this would never happen, but BNSF 6485, a former ATSF SD45-2, has been repainted into the swoosh at the Mid-American in Kasas City According to others, this engine has been downrated to SD40-2 specs, so it may no longer have a 20 cylinder.

In this pic BNSF 6485 sits behind BNSF 727, a former Silverbonnet C44-9W.

Snazzy!

Is it just me or is the logo a bit off-center?

It certainly seems to be sitting a bit left of center doesn’t it? In any event, a nice livery on an aged EMD.

So, what did it look like before?

much classier ( Santa Fe Yellow & Blue)

Well, it’s been said that BNSF should go back to the widely popular and well-known, even with the general public, Warbonnet livery (I have heard that it is as classic as the Coca-Cola and GE images, just to name a few). You won’t get an argument from me. [:)]

Doncha know, they always put the decals directly under the dynamic-brake resistors so they can be more readily burned off or otherwise disfigured!

Is it just me or are the fans too close together. It looks like a sd40-2 fan set on a sd45-2 radiator housing. It would support a 16 cylinder change out though.

It needs silver trucks[:-^]

Aint that the truth! Last weekend I saw three SD70MAC units at Eola, each one with large burn marks on the long hood and all in the same spot.

It’s original number was 5631 in built in May 1972, then renumbered to 5835 when rebuilt in September of 1986.

How the mighty have fallen. Once leading hotshot priority trains, now wearing a permanent Halloween costume. Same for #727.

Take care,

Russell

Yes that fans have been changed. According to the painting criteria the logo is properly placed. The SD45-2s just have an exceptionally long radiator hood. Probably lengthened to address overheating problems on the SD45.

and cablights

It looks…odd![#dots]

It used to have them!

Nice to see the old gal get a new dress.

Don’t know how much longer we’ll be seeing these units anywhere. At lest this one has some assumed life left. (Before anyone freaks out, no, I’m not implying that I know anything about the SD45-2s being retired - it’s just an old engine is all.)
