I am looking for a model of a Union Pacific SD60. I would like the numbers on it to be particular. Does anyone know where I can find something special like this or know of anyone that customizes these?

Go to Firsthobby.com. They have the Athearn Ready To Run U.P. SD60s in three different road numbers. Nos # 6018, 6037 and 6072 for $70.89.

the proto 2000 ones pull like 90 cars

Thank you. I’m not sure that I know what a proto 2000 is. It is actually to be a gift that would have sentimental value, that’s why I am being specific with the numbers…would probably not leave the shelf. :slight_smile:

Three questions: What are dummy engines? And are the numbers on the engines removable and replaceable with others? Does anyone know if it would be easier to get a dummy engine rather than one that works? This engine is for a gift and would never run on a track.

A dummy engine is simply a shell without the motor/ drive gears.
the easiest way is to get an painted but unnumber engine, or use 91% alcohol to remove the numbers and use decals to get the specific # you want. Micro Scale, Walthers, & others make decals.
Athearn has # 6018, 6037, & 6072.
Life Like (Proto 2000) has # 5961, 5969, 6005, & 6044
also available is a SD60M which is a wide nose version # 6088, 6145, 6226, 6288, 6293, & 6344

Thank you. I called Athearn and the person I talked to suggested that I put my request in the form of an email. Where can I find a dummy SD60? Athearn said they can order any number decal. I am hopeful. There is a SD60 on ebay that I am bidding on, it’s fairy inexpensive, about half the cost of the one at Athearn, but someone else wants it to…

70% alcohol works better than 91% i think, 91% takes paint off, and if its for a gift, send the unit you buy to me, and ill re number it for ya, no problem.
