I was wondering why does CSX’s SD70ACe’s have two different noses, or is the picture incorrect?
4817 is a SD70MAC

nanaimo is right. 4817 is incorrectly classified as an ACe on Railpictures.

Thats no ACE, thats a MAC!!![:p]
Wow, I see I’m not the only one to notice!
They did a newer cab, and put it on the ACes and M-2s, as well as some later SD70s and 90s. I think it was a horrible mistake, those cabs are soooo ugly!
I like em!!! They do look freaky though.

Actually some 90MAC’s had that version but none of the SD70M’s have that cab. Some UP’s and NS’s have a in-between version.

I like the noses they look cool.

I like them because they are still trains. The SD70ACe cabs are more similar to the last SD90MAC’s. The SD70M’s had a less weird modified version of the standard cab that looked similar to the SD90’s cab. Then they went back to the modified SD90 style cab for the SD70ACe/SD70M-2’s.
I happen to like them. They are good looking, in my opinion.
Those noses certainly are…different. Why are those there like that anyway? Is it so the crew can get in and out without havint to duck (as far)?
Its a good change from the normal ones.
Hog nose!!!
ugly…but sweet looking
Straying a bit off the specifics of the topic, I had someone swear to me that he saw new SD90MAC-H’s come through Butler on the UP in April or May of this year. I was pretty sure that there weren’t any new 90’s being made, but he was sure that they were big MACs. The newest SD70ACes sure do look like those 90MACs though!
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. SD70ACEs are beutiful in my opinion.
they have a look that only the designer can love…

I think EMD hire LEGO to do the styling[:)]
By that you must mean the staff of six year olds in the R&D dept… I agree.
