There was another post saying that EMD was making these new locomotives and they would be released in about 5 months. Is this true, and are there pictures anywhere?
Not true, no company has ordered such a model. The SD70ACe and SD70M-2 are rated at the same horsepower as the SD75 models were anyway, what would be the point?
I searched the forums and could only find a post form 5 years ago asking why the 4,300HP rated SD70 series locomotives weren’t marketed as SD75’s. Given that the 16-710 engine can’t be developed to a higher HP rating there is no reason to use the 75 designation…
Having searched the MODEL RAILROADER forum further it appears that the post in question was deleted so I think it’s fair to assume it was bull.
I guess If EMD ever does succesfully modify the 16-710 to run at 4500HP (which some of the SD75M’s were initially set up to run at) they could bring back that model designation but it’s not likely, IMHO…
If EMD ever brings out a SD75Ce/M-2, the name would probably be mostly for marketing reasons IMO. A modestly improved SD70ACe/M-2. EMD won’t likely use SD80 series or SD90 series monikers for a new 12-710 unless they come out with a loco that has a 265H.
I think I did hear of sutch a thing though when I first joined the forum. Something about the coolins systems. Maby not, but yah the only diffrence beetween the SD70ACe and SD70M-2 is that the later one is DC current.

I thought about possibilities of it, a 6000 hp (unlikely), a hybrid (more unlikely), a version with less emissions, or just a slightly updated version with a new name, a little bit like the GP30’s “30 improvements” vs. 2200 hp.
A 6,000HP locomotive would be an SD90ACE, would it not? The big problem with theorizing that EMD is working on some big secret project is that since the company changed ownership it has had far less R&D money available…
Of course given the calender date maybe we should be discussing the soon to be unveiled DD70ACe. An 8,600 horsepower locomotive with two 16-710 engines and riding on AC motored BB+BB (4 axle bolster connected) trucks. Then if EMD really can improve the 265H as they trying to do for China they’ll buld the DD90ACe demonstrator…
My imagaintion tells me a DD70ACe would have one 6,0000 HP diesel locomotve engine.

What you’ve got there is an DD90ACe, the 70 series prime mover won’t reach that HP rating…of course you could use 2 12-710 engines for 6,200 HP…a DD59ACe?
