I know there are a lot of people like those new GE’s, but ever since I saw those ATSF SD75M’s I thought they were really good looking locomotives. Am I the only fan of SD75M’s and SD75I’s? I just can’t get enough of them. Wish I could get to Canada to see the CN units.
yea CN has a lot of those…they pretty nice…search for CN…there are SD70/75i pics all over the net.
I like them too however I have read that the BNSF isn’t so inchanted with the units. I don’t know why and I see the EMD folks on this forum don’t know why either. I asked a question once of why do folks call the SD70M the compition to the DASH 9 when the SD75M or I model really are.
Is BNSF having a reliability problem with them? I still remember in '95 when ATSF first took delivery of them, and I was determined to get out and photograph them before they became BNSF. Which I did.
I can’t understand why. Does anyone out there know if there is a problem with the SD75M’s?
I have asked that question and the EMD guys duck the issue. All I know is that when BNSF first started to put units in their LUGO fleet the SD75’s were some of the first. And it was stated that BNSF was less than thrilled with there performance. My guess, and it is just a guess, it was cooling problems. Why? The SD90Mac uses the same prime mover and it didn’t give much problem. It has split cooling and much larger radiators. Also, you never read any complaints by the CN folks where the units operate in much cooler climates than the BNSF. Like I said, just a guess.

I hate to tell you that all locomotives have issues some time or another. Dash 9’s or SD75’s. It is just a question how fast those particular issues can be resolved so your availability goes back up.
