That’s some fine amateur camera work from Mr. Helms. I was tempted to wave back at that rear-end brakeman in the last few frames!
If there’s more footage it looks like a candidate for some serious digital enhancement into a great historic record.
Location is Monroe, NC, SAL Milepost 306. Conductor Clyde Helms on caboose SAL 5242, enroute to Charlotte, NC. Thanks Classic Trains for posting.
nice- thanks for sharing .
Who is playing the guitar and what song is it?
even for an 8mm not very good.
I was born in 1962. I really wish I could have seen the steam trains from that era. I saw the Milwaukee Road 261 back in 2006 just by accident going through Oconomowoc, WI. What a treat!
Mr Koller has missed the point .Its amateur film and thanks to somebody to be there and record it because it would be an other little bit of history lost forever.
I grew up in Buffalo, N.Y in the 50 and 60’s New York Central, Erie Lackawanna ,as well as B&O and Nickel Platte, all came into Buffalo, We had several stations, the Central Terminal and The DL&W, in down town. My dad and several of my uncles worked for New York Central and Pullman. Years later I worked for Amtrak out of Penn station and later Chicago Union Station.
