Seaboard Coast Line

My son (5yrs old) and I are trying to put together a layout of a local line. Seaboard Coast Line. We live in Beaufort SC. where it ends at the port of Port Royal. It will include the port operation, a lumber distributor,a concrete plant, and an asphalt plant as well. It will be a 4x8 layout in HO scale. I was wondering if anyone knew a little more about the line (past history, origin, etc). Or if you could point me in the right direction. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Type CSX in the search box, which is now the old Seaboard line. scroll down past the train sellers and you will find some info about the line, the present day track map and some photos. I model the CSX in N scale I have a print out of the history if I can remember the site I will post it for you. Hope this helps.

This is a follow up reply, type CSX Transportation in the search box and it will give you the history of all the rail lines that CSX ( Seaboard ) aquired. By the way I live in Florida and the old seaboard line was about 1 mile from my home, gone now.

The line from Yemassee, SC, to Port Royal was sold by CSX to the State of South Carolina around 15 years ago and it is operated by the Railroad Commission of South Carolina as the Port Royal Railroad (PRYL). For more information, go to www.aslrra.org, click on “who we serve”, then “railroads” and the state of South Carolina. This will give you the website and other information concerning the PYRL and the other short lines owned by the state.

It does, and thank you very much for your reply.

Thank you very much for your reply.

Glad to hear that someone else is interested in the SCL. The Atlantic Coast Line and Seaboard Air Line Historical Society has losts of information at www.aclsal.org

I live near the former SCL (ACL - now CSX)in Alabama.
