Just did a search and found a reference which I will check out later. However, I found the list of answers very confusing. The dates of the posts it referred to jumped all over the place. If you had an idea of when the post you were looking for was, you would have no idea where to start. Is there a way to get them to show up in cronilogical order? I only had five pages to look through, some searches I have done had many more, thought of asking this question then.

Be very specific in your search terms, and also limit it to one section if you think the post was there (or just search again and pick a different section if you don’t find it). Just typeing two or three words in the search box means any post with any of those words in it - if you want to search for brass trains and ONLY posts about brass trains, type in “brass trains” with the quotes. There seems to be no way to order the results, they are by relevance, so the more often your search term(s) appear in the message, the higher up it will be.

Thanks for the response. I used only one word for the search as I had figured out some time ago that more than one word got a mass of responses. (Wife clued me in later on the " " around a phrase.). Glad to know I’m not the only one that can’t get them in order.

I tried doing sorts, as well, and tried to sort using the “More Search Options”, and wanted the results sorted by “Newest First”, and the results are all over the place. Starting with 2009, 2008, 2010, etc. I raised this issue when the new format came out, and I guess it’s on the back burner.
Of the few internet fourms I use, this one has the least user friendly search system. What I would love to see here that everyone else does is to bring searches up as threads rather than individual posts.
It just makes more sense to search that way, kind of like: planet, country, state, city, street, house, room.
The dates never lining up an a descending or ascending order is the biggest gripe I have about the search issue. But then, these forums are free so I just have to deal with it as best as I can.
I have learned how to use Google which many times points me to the Trains.com forums and I find the answer in a thread. Searching is a learning experience which for Geezers like me is not easy.
Just takes a little patience.
