Searching for hard-to-find GP9 kitbashing item

Hi all,

I’m hoping to convert an HO scale P2K GP7 to a GP__9__. For me, the most obvious spotting feature between the two models is the additional louvres on the GP9’s long hood between the cab and the dynamic brake blister. I’m positive that somebody made ultra-thin louvre panels in styrene that could be cemented on - I just can’t remember who.

I tried searching the Walthers website for everything made by Cannon & Co., Detail Associates, and Details West. But I didn’t find louvres in the list. Maybe they are called something else? Anyway, if somebody could either show me the correct name/mfgr/item# for a louvre set or recommend some other workaround solution, I’d greatly appreciate it. I can’t justify buying a new P2K GP9 off the 'Bay with my already-overspent hobby budget.

Are you referring to the upper vents by the roof, or the lower ones on the doors? If you need additional ‘door’ vents, I read somewhere that you could cut them out of a scrap F7 shell, sand the backs down, and then apply them to the doors.

Plano makes some etched stainless steel louvers for first generation diesels. See http://www.planomodelproducts.com/461.htm.

Hope that helps! [:)]

RJ, you da Man! [bow] That’s exactly what I need, I’ll get an order into Plano asap.

emdgp9, I was referring to the ones on the doors. Your idea would be good as a ‘Plan B’, but I gave away all my old Athearn F units when I bought my Stewarts. Thanx anyhoo!
