Searching for something...

I’m looking for a Nice Norfolk Southern Locomotive, With the Horsehead Scheme. I own a Athearn dash 9 and I’m looking for another engine to add to fleet. But I’m having trouble finding a engine that has the Horsehead scheme. I wan’t it to be a decent brand. DCC ready and don’t wan’t to spend more then $150. Anyone have any suggestions for me? If it’s appealing enough it might not need horsehead. Just give me your thoughts on some of the best my money can buy.

Conrail,

The Proto 2000 GP38-2 is a very nice locomotive:

The snow plow, air hoses, and horns are Details West parts that I added myself. It actually comes with it’s own parts but the DW parts are more accurate and look better. I picked up my NS GP38-2 from M.B. Klein for $67.99 (+S&H). eBay has one for auction @ 49.99/Buy It Now $54.99.

The Proto 2000 GP38-2 comes with a NMRA 8-pin socket so it is DCC-ready. However, the socket is wired backwards. (Actually, with just a few wire swaps, the socket can easily be rewired correctly.) You’ll need to correct it if you want to add a decoder. Otherwise, you can fry your decoder.

Hope that helps…

Hmm It is a thought and for only like 50 I could get too with my budget. Still taking suggestions.

I don’t know about the BLI diesels, other than the NW2/SW7s. I do have a BLI 2-8-2 Mike with QSI sound that’s nice. The detailing is very good but it’s not as smooth a runner as my Trix Mike.

How does is compare to a athearn RTR?
