Is it just me or is the ‘new’ Forum format and layout terrible?
I have tried a number of times to use the Search box whilst having the Community section of Model Railroader open. The results of my searches show items from the complete MR site and not specific to just the Forums. I tried a number of searches using known keywords from different and current posts. The results do not show any Forum Posts relating to those searches even though I used specific key words.
The old Forum was so much easier to use. As I said maybe it’s me but this layout really turns me off wanting to review Forum Posts, past and present.
With the latest software upgrade this forum has sadly become a joke for a variety of reasons, with “seemingly” very little being done to correct the bugs that have been posted and itemized numerous times here in the past few months.
It reminds me of a favorite Microsoft haiku:
Yesterday it worked.
Today it is not working.
Windows is like that.
i agree , I am trying to find info about removing factory applied lettering , which I know has been discusssed here many times and i get no where. maybe thats why I do not come here as often as I used to
The problem is, using the wrong search box. The search in the top menu bar DOES search all of Kalmbach’s site, NOT the forum. On the right hand side about halfway down (depends on you monitor setting) is a box that says “Search the Community” THIS is the one that just searches the message forums. It’s the same search that’s been in previous versions, it did NOT change with the latest upgrades. It can be tricky, but you you are looking for the phrase “removing decals” put it in quotes like that for best results.
Also do not search for a keyword from a post made today and expect to see it in the search - the search is updated nightly, there are far too many entries to have this done in realtime. This is far from the only forum on the internet to work like that.
I dunno, I just don’t seem to have all these problems like other do with this lates upgrade. It’s even working for me with IE11.
Fair enough Randy. I was using my iPad, which I tend to use a lot, for searches and visits to the site. Actually I use the iPad nearly all the time when I visit MR because of the videos etc.
The iPad does not show the search box half way down as you mentioned, nor any of the blurb normally seen on the right hand side. So I went to my PC and can now see the complete page. So fair enough it is partially me but a shame the iPad does not show the main Forum set up. Unless I am doing something wrong on the iPad as well [:$]
Maybe there’s a ‘visit main site’ button on the iPad page [:D]
Thanks for the input.
Roger
edit: Turning the iPad sideways shows the complete page. This isn’t my night!! Think I’ll go and paint something instead [:)]
Thanks I knew there were a bunch of them which is why i didn’t want to ask again. While looking here I soaked the shell . an RS3 in Simply Green and the stuff is coming right off.
its the stuff you delute “All purpose liquid cleaner” For the ends ( I did an RS3 loco) i put the shell in a small glass and soaked it , then using a Q- tip i was able to get most of it off and for stuborn stuff i gently used an eraser. For the sides I soaked some Q-tips and laid them on lettering with the shell on its side Be sure to rinse it off before the stuff dries. Then I washed it with dish soap to make sure all the green stuff was gone before I decaled it. worked great. By the way i have heard if you leave it for hours you can get all the paint off.
