Seasonal Layout Pics?

Hey everyone,

I’m starting to plan a Halloween layout and after that a Christmas layout. I built a 4x5 table with 2 levels (the second layout is about 2x4 feet) that I can bring in and set up for each holiday. I wanted to see if any of you had any pictures of your Halloween layouts especially, but I would like to see some of the Christmas layouts as well.

I’m going to get some Dept 56 and other buildings to put on the layout, but I have some very simple ideas at this point. I wanted to see how creative others have gotten with the temporary layouts they use.

Thanks in advance!

Check out Michael’s and Hobby Lobby for the Lemax village items, both Christmas and Halloween. Check the online site first for coupons, up to 40% off. The Lemax line is what K-Line used, just switch the name on the box.

Christmas stuff in the stores already! The kids go back to school next week! Where did the summer go? Heres a pic for you. Reluctently posting this picture of my holiday layout. Its just to early. But you know, another month or two and everything will be in full swing headed for Christmas.

Here are some pics from our Halloween layout. Be sure to click on the pics to enlarge them

Spankybird, that layout looks great!

What did you use for the streets and grass? Is that a tabletop that you use only for Halloween or can it be converted for Christmas too? Where did you hide all the wires to light the houses?

That is very similar to what I want to create for this year as well.

I’ve got pictures from my early version from last year here:

I added some more buildings (including after Halloween - sales!) and have more pictures. I’ll try and update my website this weekend. Nothing nearly as good as Tom’s though!

This is a 3’ x 5’ layout with 027 track on it. It was a recycled Xmas layout that we made into our Halloween layout.

We removed all the old snow (cotton) and laid our track.

next we placed our building on the layout to see where we wanted them

Then came marking the roads

then we painted green (paint) and then added ground cover while the paint is wet.

The roads are painted with flat black paint

Holes were drilled through the plywood to hide the wires.

They all look great. Thanks again for the pics! I hope I can make my first official seasonal layout look half as good…

My local Michaels has already begun stocking Halloween and Christmas Lemax stuff. Entire isles devoted to each. Some pretty cool stuff too. Get there soon, else it’ll be gone before you can blink. Also tried Walmart, nothing there yet.

Anybody else have any Halloween goodie sightings to share?

Bobby

Got my webpage updated, click on the link to see the stuff I’ve picked up in the past month or so for my coming Halloween layout. Need a lot more stuff!

My Michaels store has a lot more stuff now than the last time I was there…

Looks like its going to be very promising Jim!

Was the Lionel Halloween gondola in the catalog this year? I dont know that I ever saw that one… Does it have any special features, or is it just a show piece?

Last year they released the Halloween General + tender, the sound car, and a work caboose with spiders. This year they are releasing a Halloween dockside switcher, an operating gondola, and a transfer caboose. Here’s a pic (I hope)

It will have action:

Minimum Curve: O-27 (Except where noted)

All-new figures

Figures move around gondola when train is in motion

Minimum Curve: O-27
Dimensions: Length: 10 1/4”

ShipYear: 2006

I have the docksider and new caboose on order and I"m going to order the gondola as well. I picked up the pieces released last year and I also have the bobbing ghost head car. The other older ones are too pricey for me on ebay anyway!
