Securing Flatcar Loads ?

I’m in the process of trying to decide on the methods of securing the loads on the PS-4 flats. The wheel blocks are pretty well straight forward, not neccessarily true to scale but workable. For the chain tiedowns I’m still not to sure as to how I’ll accomplish it.

Has anyone ever tried using jeweler’s screw eyes, they look as if they would fit the the holes that are already in the deck ends and sides.

Doug, there’s an article about this very subject in the June issue of MR. They use small chains and little pieces of wire to do the job in HO. The task would be even easier in O.

Doug, do you have the Jan 2004 CTT? Article about “dressing up” Lionel engines. They have suggestions on how to do hoist eyes for engines. Might even have some part numbers. I’ve never tried to model chains. For loads, I use the black sticky windshield sealing rope [not the stuff in a tube]. A tiny piece of it to a wheel holds tight but then can be removed with a good pull.

Water-based craft glue such as Elmer’s under each tire will secure the loads to the flatcars, and if the need ever arises, can be easily removed with a little water and a paint brush, leaving no residue or blemi***o the two items.
