Security Cameras

I’d be interested in knowing what others are using for security cameras for thier layout

I use a “Mole” Camera Made by Aztec

http://molecamera.com/html/feature.html

and it has some good features but poor company support

Here us my on line view

It had a zoom feature but only if you used IE 8

it no longer works

Im looking for a newer system with better support

So you installed the camera for use during operating sessions, when a few people are around?

I like your couch. [(-D] I have a chair, no longer used in the living room, taking up space in my train room, and it’s piled with projects.

Mike.

why do you need a security camera?

Probably for when he conducts an Open House and strangers are roaming around the layout.

Rich

I don’t use it for security but use it so my out of town friends can view the layout realtime minus the 2-3 sec transmission delay

my friends can control the camera remotely from their computer panning it left, right or up and down

they can even operate my trains using their cell phones and JMRI

Trick is to allow for the time delay (Kinda like NASA does with the Mars Rover) So they can stop the train in time at the station

Yes Rich A hidden benifit

You can set the camera to snap a photo and the time between photos is adjustable down to 1 minute

It also has live streaming ability so i could review the whole day if something turned up missing

and it has motion detection you can adjust and it will auto upload to utube

then text me to let me know

Mike

The intent was for my out of town friends to view the layout Remotely

and yea the couch is a catch all for track cleaning cars

Wow, I had no idea that something like that could be done. Has there ever been any mishaps from the long distance remote operations?

I wanted to look into something like with our property, in northern WI. About 300 miles from our home, but I haven’t as of yet.

There are lots of web sites that have live streaming trains, and just for a brief blink of a second, the thought flashed through my mind of a web site with live streaming model railroads.

I guess when the camera is on, one would have to be carefull about what goes on in the train room [:-,] [swg]

Mike.

On the layout I use Radio Shack and Harbor Freight cameras and monitors. These typically include a monitor and 2 cameras. This works well for many model RR apps, since you can’t look at everything at once anyway in most cases. Pick the camera pairs carefully and yoy’ll still see everything you need to.

For general security around the house, I use a Zosi system. This replaced an ancient Swann system. You can get a DVR with hard drive and 8 cameras for about $200 (they also do 16 channel if you need it). You provide your own monitor if you need something separate from your computer. It offers all kinds spf scheduling and editing features, plus internet/wifi access for remote viewing (and operation!)

Having used the Zosi, I now am thinking about using it to replace the ragtaggle group of CCTV systems serving the layout. Best feature? I’d no longer need worry about monitor locations much once I can pull out the cell/device and brng up whatever camera I need.

I have a bigpicture camera I used to make some vids, but that camera died on me recently, I have a creative camera I use from time to time, since my Big Picture died, I had to ramble to find a replacement, the answer comes from security cameras which may be using the low res NTSC standard which I need for input into computer TV card. One requirement, thay all must have a manual focus, and my big picture replacement has focus and a zoom, totally manual. I am using these on some of my vids I post or pics, I forget the maker of the newer camera, but I like it. just searh my nick for any vids. or search youtube and my nick.
