My first post and I am just starting to dig into the history of an old rail service in rural Nova Scotia.
The line began in Dartmouth, NS and ran to Musquodoboit Harbour and then went inland, up the valley, following the Musquodoboit River for the most part. It ran to a termination in Upper Musquodoboit and was in service from 1916 to the early sixties.
My focus will be on the two stations in Middle Musquodoboit and Upper Musquodoboit in the 50’s.
Since everything is now gone (station, rails, etc) I am looking for as much data as I can get to help me out.
Car Control Manuals, Track Plans, pictures of engines, cars, etc would be most helpful.
Thanks, in advance, for any help folk can provide.
You may want to check out your online Provincial Archives. Here in B.C. the online Archives have a wealth of information on Rail ops in B.C. along with thousands of old photo’s that keep me occupied for hours. As an example here is a recent photo I stumbled upon that I haven’t seen before of Vancouver in 1953. Also search Yahoo Groups. They can be quite specialized.
Probably have more luck checking on Canadian sources - AtlanticRails on Yahoo Groups, and there are many other specialised rail groups. I fthey cannot help you, they will probably be able to point you in the proper direction.
Sounds like contacting the museum and seeing if this David E Stephens (who wrote the last article here) is still affiliated with them would be a good start
You’ll get better response to a prototype inquiry like this if you ask in the Prototype Information forum. So, if you don’t mind, I’ll move this thread over there for you. Happy railroading!
