Seeking Norfolk Southern-related help

I am going to be back in my stomping grounds by the middle of next week–the NS Birmingham - DC line, especially the part around Abingdon, VA (and perhaps 15-20 miles therefrom each way).

Any advice is welcome: good viewing places, consists, frequencies for scanner, frequency of runs (my impression is that NS runs more trains and runs them faster than in the past, but being a Rochelle-ite I know I’m spoiled).

Are the locomotives really THAT boring? What do they use besides Dash-Nines?

An eager reader awaits!
Thanks,

Allen,

Don’t know much about that line. I live on the other north/south main thru Virginia, DC ATL. We get so many run thru’s, that some days I don’t even seen a “BLACKIE” Dash9 or otherwise. Have a safe trip.

Lots of SD70M and SD70 standard cabs, geep 38 and 40 high noses, and big sds too can be found roaming the system.
